I’m a breeder of American Cocker Spaniels. My love for the breed started as a child, as my favourite Disney movie was Lady & The Tramp. ❤️ I long dreamt of owning a “Lady”.

My very first show dog was a reddish cocker, named Brandy. She is drop dead gorgeous and had it all to be a show dog but after her first heat she blew all her coat and I couldn’t finish her. Brandy came from a breeder in Louisiana in 2017. She became not only the love of my life/inspiration, but the dam of 9 Canadian champions and 4 American champions. I couldn’t ask for a better foundation bitch as Brandy has passed her good genes and traits to my breeding stock. 

My very first litter gave me five beautiful black girls that I chose to name after diamonds. This is how my kennel name BLACKGEM came to fruition and I was able to honour Brandy’s first litter. It was a landmark litter for me as it was the first that I whelped on my own and made me an official breeder. 

I have been breeding cockers since 2019 and I have found success in a very short time. While I have had success as a show/hobby breeder of many American and Canadian champions, the most important and rewarding for me, is seeing my litters go home to be loving companions because they begin as a part of my own family.

My goal is to produce high quality, healthy, sound cocker spaniels with a “Sunny” disposition with a limited, but very selective breeding program; able to win in the show ring and in the hearts of their owners. I breed Cockers with great temperaments that not only do well in the show ring but make for wonderful family companions. My puppies are well socialized, friendly and outgoing Cocker Spaniels that make exceptional life-long family members.

My breeding program is taken very seriously. Pedigrees and genetics are researched thoroughly to make certain my breeding stock will successfully match with selected pairings. I strive to use breeding stock that is free from hereditary defects.  My puppies come with a two year health guarantee. All my dogs are AKC champions and OFA health tested and can be viewed on the OFA database. I breed according to the Cocker Spaniel Standard as approved by the American Kennel Club and the American Spaniel Club (the parent club for Cocker Spaniels in the United States). 

I breed black, chocolate and buff (silver to red). One of the distinctions of a BLACKGEM is that my breeding program is known for producing stunning plush heads with a short broad muzzle and a sweet expression. A huge part of BLACKGEM’s success in the show world is owed to the handlers that have been showing my babies over the years. A HUGE heartfelt thank you to Stacy Dobmeier who has been the handler for the majority of my crew while in the USA. She has done a superb job getting them the accolades and beautiful rosettes. Recently, the amazing team of Jessica and Rachael Legath have finished many of my most recent champions, thank you.
